Removal of Ectopic Teeth - Made Simple
Expedentist. Surgeons Who Make You Smile

What are Ectopic Teeth?
How are Ectopic teeth removed?
Depending on the position of the teeth, your surgeon will use advanced techniques to ensure the procedure is painless and minimises risk to any adjacent structures, such as teeth. Additional scans may be required prior to the surgery to assess how close the teeth are to the other teeth and important anatomical structures. To remove buried teeth, the gum is gently lifted and any bone that is holding the tooth in is carefully removed. The tooth is then gently wobbled out, just like for teeth that have erupted through the gum. The gum is replaced with dissolvable stitches and usually heals over in a week or so.

Who can have an ectopic tooth removed?
Your general dentist or orthodontist may recommend having an ectopic or supernumerary tooth removed if they are interfering with the position of your functional teeth, or causing an obstruction for orthodontic treatment. These teeth can also sometimes cause problems with teeth if they are impacted up against them, such as resorption of tooth roots. The ectopic/supernumerary tooth is then removed in order to maintain the health of your erupted, functional teeth.
